Are you ready for Blake “Murphy” O’Callaghan? I keep calling it “Murphy’s Book” because he dominates the story. Heidi and Axel are obviously big parts of it too.
I love all of my books. But something about Murphy’s story…I’m in love with More Than Miles. It’s not an easy journey. It’s painful. You’re going to really hate me. Hate the characters. I’m trying to prepare myself for that. I’m acutely aware that readers want the book to go a certain way. Honestly, I planned for it to go a different way myself. But the characters determined this journey, Murphy of course being the most vocal.
I could have taken the easy way out and written something with a quicker, less messy path. A straight shot from point A to point B. I could have thrown in a some trite, predictable MC drama and called it good. And there were times while writing it that I considered taking the straight road. But I knew if I did that I would have hated myself and it would have been a betrayal of the characters that I have grown to love. And what I came up with, I think, is a beautiful love story. It’s about the choices we make when we’re younger that will haunt our future selves. It’s about life sometimes having other plans for you and choosing to become stronger or letting life break you. It’s about picking up the pieces and moving on, even when it seems impossible. Of course it’s a Lost Kings MC book, so it’s also about love, loyalty, strength and how family means different things to different people. It is a rough road full of steep highs, tricky twists, and deep turns.
The best thing about More Than Miles is that it will challenge all of your pre-conceived notions of these characters. Each one of my beta readers described shock and a rollercoaster of emotions when they read the first draft, and it’s only gotten stronger since then. Characters you thought you hated, you will love. Characters you love, you’re going to look at a little differently. Is that good or bad? I’ll let you decide.
Although I’ve become known for my Happy For Now endings and I love them dearly, I will tell you that More Than Miles has a definitive HEA that I think my readers will end up loving. The ending is something I swore I’d never write, but now I can’t imagine this book any other way.
So, on August 16th, clear your calendar, grab your favorite blanket, and get ready for a bruising ride.
I promise you, it will be worth the journey.
Autumn
I’m scared but looking forward to the ride. However you wrote it is the way it is supposed to be Autumn and I respect your awesome talent as a writer and looking forward to the distraction!! Thank you for sharing all of the Lost Kings with us (your adoring readers!!) I find myself falling in love with all of them with every book I read, even though Rock will always be my favorite!! I will force myself to read it slow to let the story unfold. Thank you!!!!! (Yes, I overused the exclamation point!!)
Autumn, I love your love letter! I know it can be hard for Authors to write for their characters when they feel the pull to give the readers what they think they want. Thank you for always staying true to your characters and telling their story. I’ll admit, Murphy’s journey has me a little nervous! We grow to love these people so much. Their pain becomes our pain. Their joy becomes our joy. I can’t wait to take this journey with him!!
OMG just reading this page has me ready for tears I can not wait to read this book but I think you are going to break my hart
Me too! I’m anxiously anticipating/ dreading the 16th lol
